Every year we have a talented collection of participants whose work is featured at our Gala. Over the next few weeks, we will interview and get to know some of our writers from the 2023 Gala: What Now!?
Next up is Cheryl Naill! Check out her interview.
1. How did it feel to have your work performed at the Gala?
It was thrilling! To hear your words being spoken in front of an audience and to get the reaction you hoped for is amazing!
2. What is something you’d like to achieve with writing?
I’d like to write a show/story with characters that make us all say “oh, that reminds me of so-and-so”, a story that everyone can relate to.
3. How has your writing grown over the years?
I’ve learned to refine and reduce the number of words I use. Once I’ve gotten the thought across, I stop.
4. What are some of your favorite books, TV shows, movies?
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, “Outlaws”, “Little Fires Everywhere”
5. What do you like to do for fun (other than writing)?
We live on a lake, so I do some fishing, a lot of reading, and traveling.
6. How did participating in a WGI (Writers Guild Initiative) workshop help your writing, (if so)?
The encouragement and feedback from other participants and mentors was key in finishing my first attempt at a novel.
7. What/Who inspires your writing?
My daughter!
8. What is your favorite piece of writing (by you or otherwise)?
Anything by Elmore Leonard.
9. Any advice, tips, resources or guidance you’d like to share for someone who wants to write?
Stick with it. Find someone to give you honest feedback.
