Exploring Our Gala Writers: Briana M. Carr!

Briana M. Carr at WGI 2023 Gala What Now?!

Every year we have a talented collection of participants whose work is featured at our Gala. Over the next few weeks, we will interview and get to know some of our writers from the 2023 Gala: What Now!? First up is Briana M. Carr! Check out her interview.

1.) How did it feel to have your work performed at the Gala?

It was mind blowing, something I never even dare dream of. It was inspiring for me to dream and write more.

2.) What is something you’d like to achieve with writing?

My memoir, a play, a show, a movie. I’m dreaming big, poet laureate and a James Beard Awarded Cookbook.

3.) How has your writing grown over the years?

Nothing seems off limits, I dabble and I release. Vulnerable writing is my way to connect with others but also allows me to hear, grow, heal myself.

4.) What are some of your favorite books, TV shows, movies?

Books:
Love Thy Neighbor: A Story of War by Peter Maass, Faithfully Religionless by Timber Hawkeye, Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain

TV Shows:
Peaky Blinders, 1883, Shrinking, and Good Will Hunting

Movies:
Good Will Hunting, Goodfellas, A Few Good Men

5.) What do you like to do for fun (other than writing)?

Volunteer with Creativets, Create, Paint, Ceramics, Philly Sports, German Soccer (Bundesliga, FC Bayern Munich), F1, Travel, Cooking, Concerts, Bookstore, quality time with hubby and fur babies.

6.) How did participating in a WGI (Writers Guild Initiative) workshop help your writing, (if so)?

It reignited my passion for writing to release and sparked my imagination, daring me to dream again.

7.) What/Who inspires your writing?

Peace of mind, processing to heal, and the joy of creativity.

8.) What is your favorite piece of writing (by you or otherwise)?

By Me: Black Sheep to Wolf, my first published piece
By Other: US Constitution

9.) Any advice, tips, resources or guidance you’d like to share for someone who wants to write?

Just release. No judgment or editing just write. Edit after you flow. Vulnerability is a super power so write to listen to yourself and be bold enough to share as you may never know who might need to hear it.
